Final Salute - Ft. Myers Police Officer Laid to Rest
FINAL CALL FOR FALLEN OFFICER.
We paid our respect to a hero Wednesday before he was laid to rest. It was a gut-wrenching goodbye to a great man, a great husband and father; and man who had a dream bigger than himself.
While we grieve with his wife Susanna and family and the loss to our community, dare we say that the life of Andrew Widman will most likely touch and change thousands of people. Something he was dedicated to every day...
Herocare has established a Widman Family Fund committee to provide oversight and further help us to raise awareness and support on a National Level for Officer Widman's family. We have also asked all of our Program Directors across the country to help in any way they can. So far, Herocare has received donations from the states of FL, GA, CA, WA, VA, LA, NY, MA, MI, OH, PA and SC.
Herocare is extremely grateful to State Senator Burt Saunders who has graciously volunteered to chair the committee for us.
Announcement: 7/24/2008 - Herocare has learned that there's actually a Florida State Statute which will provide certain death benefits such as certain college expenses at any state university for children and spouses of police officers killed in the line of duty. Click Here to read the Statute.
Announcement: 7/23/2008 - After a request from Herocare and Sen. Saunders, FGCU President William Bradshaw alerts us that FGCU will be donating tuition and fees for all three Widman children.
Announcement: 7/23/2008 - the Florida Firecats will be donating $5 to the Widman Family Fund for every ticket sold from Thursday to Saturday night for the final home season game at 7:30 pm.
TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED THROUGH THE FIRECATS DIRECTLY OR THROUGH TICKETMASTER. THE FIRECATS WILL DONATE $5 TO OUR FUND FOR EVERY TICKET SOLD THURSDAY, FRIDAY OR SATURDAY.
