Herocare was founded to help heroes achieve the “American Dream” of homeownership and financial security. Herocare Community Counseling offers counseling in the areas of pre-homeownership, foreclosure and economic hardship, rental housing, and financial/debt management.
Giving

We created the term "herophilanthropy" to encompass our varied giving initiaves. Established funds such as the Herocare Freedom Fund and the Community Support Fund help us with long-term giving goals. Smaller local initiatives such as a softball tournament hosted in conjuction with the local fire union to help raise funds for two firefighters injured in the line of duty, help us meet real-time local giving needs.

Overview
Herocare is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the housing and financial needs of essential service workers. Herocare endeavors to provide educational opportunities, counseling resources and emergency funding and is designed to fit in as a NO COST add-on to an employer's existing benefits program. A snapshot of our programs can be seen in the left column and feel free to click on the links to find out more.
Why Herocare?
Central repository of resources — In an altruistic society like the U.S., there are many efforts to bring affordable housing to essential service workers but often the workers they're intended to help don't know the programs exist or how to find out about them. Herocare intends to close this gap by becoming a comprehensive resource for heroes and those who want to help them. We envision that our website will become the place where organizations with affordable housing solutions and discounted services post their programs and where heroes easily and quickly find what resources are available in their local area. Local solutions which solve local barriers to homeownership are key components of Herocare.
Combined membership provides leverage — We found that many businesses offer discounts to essential service workers and that public sector employers often create directories of these businesses for their employees to use. A hospital will have one directory, a school district another, etc. Businesses struggle to find ways to get into each directory and may provide one discount for teachers, another for police, etc. As we've interviewed public servants, we found this system is far from effective. Essential service workers complain they have a hard time finding updated discount listings, directories often list names of businesses but do not identify discounts, and most frustratingly, heroes go to these businesses and hear the words, "what discount?" from uninformed workers. By catering to ALL essential service workers in a community, Herocare can negotiate more substantial discounts, provide an easy-to-access comprehensive directory, and follow-up with businesses on behalf of heroes when an employee does not know of their company's discounts.
Community Professionals undergo an application and screening process — Carefully screening housing, financial and legal professionals ensures that they are top-notch providers in their respective industries. Once screened, these professionals are encouraged to volunteer time in support of our teaching and counseling initiatives.
Spirit and culture of gratitude — Herocare cultivates a spirit and culture of gratitude for heroes. Saying "thank you" isn't a novel idea but these days it sure seems to be unique. Essential service workers often feel unappreciated. Our goal is to increase community awareness of their daily acts of service and to communicate the simple message of "Thank You!"
