Herocare focuses on working with others in the community to support causes that aid essential service workers and is seeking funding for several internal herophilanthropic efforts:
The Herocare Freedom Fund
Herocare created a permanent crisis fund to provide primarily for emergency assistance, education, and scholarships for families of those killed or severely incapacitated in the line of duty. Though a planned concept until recently, the tragic death of a Fort Myers PD officer, Andrew Widman, killed while selflessly trying to protect an innocent woman, demonstrated the urgent need for the funds and highlighted Herocare's ability to mobilize and call into action a large network of thousands of Herocare members nationwide. Their outpouring of generosity produced more than $30,000 for the Widman family in two months.
Sadly, Officer Widman is one of many essential service workers who lost their lives in the line of duty. In order to be prepared to respond in the future, Herocare has set in place a permanent fund with a formal Fallen Heroes Fund Committee.
The Community Support Fund
As a way to address local needs, Herocare created the Community Support Fund. Launched in February 2009, the fund collects monies to be used in local Herocare communities for awareness, appreciation events and informational workshops.
